I keep talking about knowing yourself on a fundamental level, but how in the heck do you do that?
Those ancient Men I was telling you about... Hippocrates, Aristotle, Galen... their life's work was figuring out how we operate as humans, especially in connection with the Natural World.
Hippocrates, considered the Father of Medicine, understood the human body was a self-healing organism that functioned as one unified whole - physically, mentally, and spiritually. He brought the nature of health and disease from the supernatural into a rational science with his understanding of the human organism and how it functions in health and disease.
Aristotle, considered the Father of Science, understood that knowledge is acquired when you use (and trust) your senses, and from direct experience and observation. He knew approaching Nature with an open mind led to learning Her secrets.
Galen, considered the greatest physician of the Roman Empire, understood how the human body was formed and structured, and how it worked. From there, he drew the conclusion that health came from a balanced, optimal functioning of the body.
These men, plus many ancient greats before and after their time, contributed to the systematized art of traditional holistic healing of the West, also known as Traditional Western Medicine or Greek Medicine.
Traditional Western Medicine is rooted in the understanding of how we as humans wholly relate and respond to the environment around us, as well as how we function to ensure health and well-being.
Traditional Western Medicine (like traditional holistic healing systems of the East such as Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda) is founded on the belief of balance and harmony. Not only within oneself physiologically, mentally, and emotionally, but also with the Universal Life Forces of Nature and the cosmos. It seeks to work with Nature instead of against it to bring the microcosm of the human body in balance with the macrocosm of Nature.
As above, so below; as within, so without.
Seems to me our outer world is a mess because our inner world isn't so great, collectively. Our inner world is all out of whack: from repeated medical injections to fatty, nutrient-deficient sugary foods; from addictive products to moral-less living.
So I ask you one last time, if you're looking for change, are you ready to go inward? Are you ready to balance yourself with the macrocosm of Nature?
Song I feel jives well with this episode:
