What does it mean to sacrifice something?

To say you’d sacrifice your life for your love, or your child, is to give up something extremely valuable (your life) for the betterment of something else.

Ancient Egyptians held rams in such high regard that they sacrificed them every Spring Equinox so the Sun would return and the year would be fruitful.

The very thing they loved & respected dearly, they were willing to give it up freely for the promise of better.

There’s many things I hold in high regard in my life.

Am I willing to give them up for the promise of better?
